What does a forehead lift aim to restore?
A forehead lift will restore the eyebrows to a more youthful, aesthetic position, soften horizontal forehead lines, furrows, and frown lines, and reduce the lateral hooding of the eyes (droopy skin that hang over the outside corner of your eyes). The resultant effect is a smooth, youthful, refreshed, happier, and alert appearance in the upper face.
What can you tell me about the procedure and incisions?
A brow lift can be performed using a variety of techniques that include endoscopic, coronal, anterior hairline, or a limited temporal technique. Some of the factors that determine which technique is employed include your: forehead height, hairline location and degree of recession, quality of hair and hairstyle, and the amount of brow elevation required. Although the length and location of the incision will vary depending on the technique, all of the incisions will be well camouflaged. Dr. Awada will be glad to review the options in depth in addition to the associated risks and benefits of each. After examining you and understanding your likes and dislikes, she will be able to take your individual characteristics into account and assist you in determining the option that best fits your needs. What should I anticipate about the recovery?
Expect to have a mild discomfort that improves in a few days and is well controlled by oral medication. Depending on the technique used, you may experience forehead numbness and itching which will improve with time. The majority of forehead swelling will resolve in a week allowing return to light work and social activity. However, repetitive bending and strenuous activity (including sex) is not recommended for 3 weeks.
What other tips do I need to be aware of?
If your brows are severely drooping they may cause you to have a peripheral visual obstruction. This may qualify you for coverage of your forehead lift by your insurance company. Dr. Awada will be glad to consult with you and obtain the appropriate information necessary for your insurance company’s determination.
Can I combine a forehead lift with other surgery?
Although a forehead lift rejuvenates the upper one-third of your face, eyelid surgery and a face lift are usually performed in conjunction to restore youth throughout and achieve harmony in your face. Dr. Awada will provide you with a consultation that includes a complete facial evaluation and help you determine what is required to achieve your desired look. She will be glad to review preoperative and postoperative photos with you to demonstrate achieved results of combined and individual operations as well as the various incisions and techniques.
