It’s not uncommon when aging, or after significant weight loss, to experience stretched, loose skin in the arms. Understandably, this can lead to being uncomfortable with your appearance and even general feelings of unhappiness due to diminished self-confidence. If you want to get rid of your arm’s excess skin, consider an arm lift in Detroit.

When it comes to excess skin under the arms, there’s often no amount of exercise or diet that will help you tighten up. Thankfully, Dr. Mariam Awada offers a solution that will help restore your confidence and have you back in short sleeves in no time. With an arm lift or Brachioplasty, you’ll get tighter skin and smoother supportive tissue giving you a defined upper arm that you’ll be excited to show off.

Before and After Arm Lift & Contouring

Am I A Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?

Good arm lift candidates include adults with excess upper-arm skin laxity who are at a relatively stable weight and are not suffering from illnesses that could increase risk during surgery or slow down healing.

In addition, candidates for an arm lift must have realistic expectations for the procedure’s results and must be non-smokers or willing to quit. Smoking can result in complications during surgery and recovery.

Your Arm Lift Consultation

Before getting an arm lift, you will need to arrange a consultation with Dr. Mariam Awada. Dr. Awada will ask about your medical history to check if you are an ideal candidate for the procedure. She will examine the undersides of your arms, take photos for documentation, and discuss your options.

During the consultation, the doctor will give you pre- and post-surgery instructions, such as quitting smoking and stopping certain medications, vitamins, and supplements.

What Exactly is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift consists of a 2 to 3-hour procedure where excess skin is removed from the upper arm. A series of incisions will be made in the upper arm and bicep groove and excess skin will be removed, giving your arms a toned, smooth appearance. Excess stubborn fat will be removed through liposuction.

The doctor will redrape the skin and then suture the incisions closed. Stitches will need to be removed one to two weeks after the arm lift.

Recovery Time for Arm Lift Surgery

After around 7 to 10 days from your procedure, you should be able to return to your normal routine, as long as you avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activities. You can expect some bruising and swelling, depending on how much skin was removed. After four weeks, you’ll be back to normal!

How Much Does an Arm Lift Cost?

The cost of an arm lift may be impacted by the anesthesia fees, the techniques used, and the time needed to perform the surgery. Since this is an elective procedure, insurance will not cover its price. Make sure to ask about the cost and available payment options during the initial consultation.

What About the Other Areas of My Body?

Frequently, our patients choose to combine the arm lift procedure with other skin-tightening procedures to improve their overall body contour. Operations such as tummy tucks, thigh lifts, and breast lift target loose skin in other areas of the body. If you’ve experienced significant weight loss, or are simply experiencing the effects of aging, these areas are typically the most affected. By tackling all these areas at once, you can avoid having to return for multiple procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions about Arm Lifts

Is arm lift risky?

Like any surgery, an arm lift carries some risks such as bleeding, infection, scarring, or temporary numbness. However, when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, complications are uncommon, and most patients heal safely with excellent results.

Can you move your arms after arm lift?

Yes. You’ll be able to move your arms right after surgery, but you’ll need to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity during the early healing period. Gentle movement is encouraged to support circulation and recovery.

When can I stretch my arms after an arm lift?

Most patients can begin light stretching within 2–3 weeks, once the incisions have started to heal. Full range of motion and more intense activities are usually safe after 4–6 weeks, depending on your recovery progress and your surgeon’s guidance.

Can I get an arm lift if I plan to lose more weight?

It’s best to be at or near your goal weight before surgery. Significant weight loss after an arm lift could cause new sagging and affect your results. Your surgeon will help you decide the right timing.

Can men get arm lift surgery?

Absolutely. Both men and women can benefit from arm lift surgery. Men often choose the procedure after weight loss or to address excess skin that can’t be improved with exercise alone.
