Keloid Scarring: Firm, raised, and reddish-purple scars that extend beyond the initial wound area and build over time
Hypertrophic Scarring: Firm, raised, and pink scars that remain within the initial wound area and may fade over time
Atrophic Scarring: Depressed pin-like pockets in the skin that can result from skin conditions or diseases such as acne

Not everyone is a candidate for laser scar removal. People with skin disorders such as psoriasis, cystic acne,
and dermatitis may not be ideal candidates and may require medical treatment before laser treatment. Those using
certain medications such as those for acne may need to stop using the medication prior to the procedure.

During laser scar removal, the laser is moved along the scar. This can vaporize or remove a layer of skin and expose a more natural-looking skin layer, which heals over time to minimize scar appearance. Other lasers may target lower layers of the skin, stimulating new collagen growth and correcting scars from the inside out. Your skin’s regeneration process can begin as early as four days after treatment. Speed of regeneration depends on the type of laser used, individual skin characteristics, and how well you follow your doctor’s instructions. What types of scars can be treated?

Laser scar treatment is appropriate for surgical scars and acne scars in any area of the body, including the face.

Am I a good candidate for this procedure?

Laser scar treatment works on any skin type, including very light and very dark skin. We will evaluate your scars to determine whether you are a good candidate for this treatment at your consultation.

How does it work?

We use a fractional laser from the company that invented and patented micro fractional laser technology, Cynosure. This Laser uses “fractional” pulses of laser light to break down scar tissue and help generate healthy new tissue, light in color, and more even in texture.

How long does it take?

The procedure can be performed in as little as 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel minimal discomfort during the laser procedure. If you are worried about the pain, we can discuss pain management options with you during your consultation.
