BBL/Hips Fat Transfer in Michigan
Conveniently located to serve Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Troy, Novi, and Metro Detroit
At Michigan Cosmetic Surgery, we meet many patients who are dissatisfied with the size or shape of their buttocks. A smaller buttock area can throw off your entire figure, resulting in disproportion or asymmetry. One way to achieve full, shapely buttocks is through a procedure known as the Brazilian butt lift (BBL).
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mariam Awada is a top provider of BBL surgery in Southfield, MI and is proud to serve the local community as well as the surrounding areas of Birmingham, West Bloomfield, Detroit, Troy, Farmington Hills, Livonia, and Royal Oak.
Before & After BBL/Hips Fat Transfer
What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Brazilian butt lift surgery is a buttock enhancement procedure that also provides body sculpting through fat removal in targeted areas. During the procedure, unwanted fat is removed from the abdomen, flanks, or back through a process known as liposuction. This fat is then transferred to the buttock area, where it is manipulated to provide real fullness and definition. The end goal is an overall physical appearance that looks natural and beautiful.
How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?
The Brazilian butt lift process always begins with a consultation. During this appointment, Dr. Awada will carefully listen to your aesthetic goals and concerns and suggest treatment options aligned with your needs.
The specifics of the BBL procedure can vary from patient to patient, depending on how much fullness we need to add and where we are harvesting the fat. Most often, we recommend the 360 lipo treatment, which collects fatty tissue from the abdomen, flanks, back, and axilla.
Once harvested and processed, the fat is injected into the buttocks. Using her artistic eye, Dr. Awada carefully shapes the tissue to achieve a well-sculpted buttock. The incision sites are stitched up, and your enhanced buttocks will settle into their final positioning as you recover.
Am I a Good Candidate for the Brazilian Butt Lift?
When you meet with Dr. Awada for a consultation, she will evaluate your medical history to verify that you are a good candidate for a safe, successful procedure. Generally speaking, the best candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift:
- Are at a stable body weight but desire fuller, rounder, and perkier buttock contours
- Have sufficient excess body fat that can be harvested and used for the transfer
- Are in good health overall, and do not have any conditions that would impede post-op healing
- Have realistic expectations for the procedure outcome
The Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure Explained
Where will the fat for my Brazilian butt lift come from?
One of the prerequisites for getting a Brazilian butt lift is that you have enough excess body fat that can be collected through liposuction and transferred to your buttocks. There are a number of sites on the body where we can look for excess fat, but most commonly, we look to the back, flanks, and abdomen.
How is the fat extracted?
We typically remove fat through a treatment known as liposuction, which surgically vacuums fatty tissue out of your body. Liposuction is a very common plastic surgery procedure, and in fact, it provides Brazilian butt lift patients with an extra advantage.
Not only does the BBL procedure produce full, shapely buttocks, but the liposuction provides a body sculpting effect, removing unwanted fat from select areas to create slimmer, shapelier contours. The goal is for the patient’s post-op results to resemble the striking signature hourglass figure that so many of our patients desire.
What will my surgery day be like?
It is natural to feel a little hesitation as the big day approaches; getting any kind of surgical intervention can be intimidating. We want our patients to rest assured that comfort and safety are our top priorities, and that we go to great lengths to make certain you feel welcome and relaxed throughout your procedure day.
This begins with a warm greeting and compassionate care from our all-female team. We will be ready to answer any last-minute questions, furnish detailed aftercare instructions, and help you feel relaxed. Dr. Awada will also spend some time with you before the surgery to offer any last-minute encouragement you need.
The procedure is performed in our in-house surgical suite, which our patients find to be very convenient and private. We utilize a range of anesthesia options so that you do not feel any pain or discomfort during your procedure.
The duration of your surgery depends on various factors, including the number of liposuction sites required, but you can expect your surgery to last somewhere between three and four hours. Assuming there are no unforeseen complications, you will be able to return home shortly thereafter.

You may also experience some tenderness for the first few days, which can be managed with medications. Dr. Awada and her team will provide special compression garments to wear over the places where the liposuction was performed.
You will also be advised to avoid sitting or lying directly on your buttocks for six to eight weeks. Following the eight-week mark, you should be able to proceed to regular day-to-day activity.
