If you are a good candidate for liposuction, there are a few important facts I’d like you to be aware of before completing your procedure. These answers to some very common questions I have heard from my patients, and hopefully they will give you a clear understanding of how liposuction works. Listed below are some helpful points to consider for your liposuction procedure.
1- Liposuction And Weight Loss
Liposuction is designed to remove localized areas of fat from the body, not to help you lose weight. Ideal candidates should have a stable weight for at least 6 months. You can still use liposuction to get rid of love handles, reduce arm fat, and eliminate other pockets of fat on your body, but you should not look to this as a way to lose weight. There are healthier alternatives for weight loss that will have longer-lasting results. If you are comfortable with your weight and have established a healthy lifestyle, then liposuction may be the right option for you. The best outcome is when it is used for focal fat deposits that are out of proportion to the rest of your body. These are the same areas that typically do not respond to exercise or diet.
2 – Liposuction and Weight Gain
Even with liposuction, there is no way to predict how your body will react to weight gain in the future. If you gain weight later on, it could still go back to the area where you had the liposuction. Typically this does not occur and the weight is gained proportionately throughout the body. This is because liposuction permanently removes the fat cells and so there are less fat cells to enlarge in response to weight gain in those areas. It is always wisest and recommended that you maintain a stable, consistent weight before considering this or any other cosmetic procedure. With the right approach at the right time, you could see a number of benefits of liposuction. You just have to make sure it is the ideal solution for you.
3 – Liposuction And Other Cosmetic Procedures
To get your body looking the way you want it to, you may need more than one cosmetic procedure. Many of my patients choose to include liposuction of their flanks in addition to their tummy tuck. This is also my preference since it helps achieve more natural results and hour glass shape. Some of my massive weight loss patients who completed their weight loss are left with excess skin in addition to fat deposits. If you have very loose and excess skin in addition to fat, you may need to get a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thigh lift to sculpt your body. In fact, you may not even need liposuction to improve your body shape. To determine which procedures may best suit your needs, call 248-948-5500 to schedule your complimentary consultation.
