Many women — as many as 91 percent — admit to not being totally happy with their bodies. Though that is a large number, it is not totally surprising. Women and men alike oftentimes wish they could make adjustments to their bodies, from minor tweaks to major changes. And with medical advancements and technology progressing every day, it is more possible than ever to achieve the body you desire through plastic surgery. Breast augmentation continues to top the list of plastic surgery procedures being performed in the U.S. and women from all walks of life are taking control of their body image and investing in themselves through breast augmentation, right here in southeast Michigan and around the globe. Whether you’ve already decided on a breast augmentation or are still researching options, it is natural to feel anxious about the process. Some women fear the unknown and worry about the chance that they will not like the result of their breast augmentation. While this is a rational fear, we’ve gathered some tips to help ease this anxiety and to help to ensure that your breast augmentation will be just what you imagined.
Information Is Power
While there’s no way to be 100 percent sure that you will ultimately love your new breasts (though that is always our goal for patients!), there are steps you can take to be more confident in what your result will look like. At Michigan Cosmetic Surgery, we recommend that patients give their decision much thought and consideration — from the size they choose and the type of implant. Breast augmentation, or surgery of any kind, is not a decision to be taken lightly. We also recommend you ask yourself the following questions before deciding to undergo breast augmentation surgery: -Why do I want a breast augmentation? -How much does the size of my breasts bother me? -How long has this bothered me? -How would larger breasts impact my self-confidence and my life? -Am I prepared for the recovery process? -Am I doing this for myself? Dr. Mariam Awada of Michigan Cosmetic Surgery has counseled hundreds of women on whether or not breast augmentation is right for them through education, candid conversation and her professional recommendations. Dr. Mariam Awada prides herself on providing patients with natural-looking results while also ensuring she delivers the results that were discussed prior to surgery. To assist in the decision-making process, during a consultation you are able to see and feel “sizers,” which replicate various sizes of breast implants. You can even try them on for size to get the feel for them and help you decide the right size for your body. Further, you can see a plethora of before and after photos of previous patients who have had breast augmentation at Michigan Cosmetic Surgery.
Realistic Expectations
Dr. Mariam Awada is dedicated to setting realistic expectation for her patients. As such, she always shares information honestly with her patients about how the recovery process will work. Keep in mind that, on average, breast implants will take a minimum of three months to heal fully and display their final result. The way your breasts look immediately following surgery is not the way they will ultimately end up looking. Initially, your implants will rest higher on your chest. They will also appear more swollen and a bit larger than once they are fully healed — so do not be alarmed if they appear bigger than you anticipated. Over the course of a few weeks, your breasts will settle into their natural position and the swelling will subside. On the other hand, after swelling has gone down, you may feel that the implants are smaller than you thought. However, this is likely because you were used to the swelling. We recommend you give yourself time to get used to your new breasts. Just like anything change to your appearance, it will take a bit of getting used to (though, we are pleased to say that most of our patients are thrilled right away with their breast implants from Michigan Cosmetic Surgery!).
