Liposuction & Body Contouring

Conveniently located to serve Detroit and Southfield

Liposuction and body contouring are slimming solutions for patients who want to remove fat in stubborn areas that do not react to diet and exercise. Here at Michigan Cosmetic Surgery, patients can undergo liposuction and body contouring in Detroit to permanently remove fat and achieve their dream physique.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a procedure where fat is suctioned out of the body through a cannula. A cannula is a thin tube with a sharp end. A small incision is created in the selected area for treatment, the cannula is inserted, and medical suction is used to remove the fat. This helps patients achieve their desired body contours.

Liposuction can remove fat in the following areas:

  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Calves
  • Ankles
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Upper Arms
  • Chest
  • Back

The Benefits of Liposuction

Many women long for a shapely, hourglass figure. Sometimes, you can achieve it through simple lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise. But in other cases, diet and exercise are not enough to overcome genetics. Liposuction is a body contouring solution that can help you remove unwanted fat from stubborn areas of your body, achieving the shapeliness you have been longing for.

Whether you combine it with a tummy tuck or use it to give your diet and exercise efforts an extra push, liposuction can be an excellent way to gain a trim figure. We invite you to learn more about liposuction from Michigan Cosmetic Surgery.

The Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Mariam Awada will assess your physical health to determine whether you are a good candidate for surgery. Be ready to discuss your complete medical history. You may also need to take a few lab tests to help ensure suitability for the procedure.

Dr. Awada will listen carefully to your needs and goals, and she will design a treatment plan accordingly. Feel free to ask any questions during the consultation.

What Should I Do in Preparation?

Dr. Mariam Awada will provide you with instructions on how to prepare for your liposuction procedure. For example, she may advise you to cease taking certain medications that can lead to bleeding. You will also be advised to stop using tobacco products in advance of your procedure.

You will need to request time off work in advance. During your consultation, Dr. Awada will recommend a specific number of days off based on the details of your procedure.

Arrange for a companion to drive you home on the day of the procedure. It may also be necessary to arrange for assistance during the first 24 hours after the procedure.

How Many Sessions are Involved?

Generally speaking, most patients who seek liposuction need just a single treatment. This is true even if you decide to have liposuction and a tummy tuck performed in tandem, which is very common.

What is it Like During Surgery?

During your liposuction procedure, you will be sedated with full anesthesia. You should not feel any pain or discomfort during the liposuction process. Your comfort is a foremost priority for us, and we invite you to learn more about our anesthesia options.

For smaller areas of the body, liposuction can take as little as 20 minutes. For larger areas, it may take an hour or more. The duration of your surgery depends on your specific needs and goals.

What Should I Expect in Terms of Recovery?

Following liposuction, your body will need some time to rest and recover. For the first three or four days, you will experience mild to moderate discomfort, which can be managed with medication, and you will also need to wear a compression garment. You will be able to return to work based on the individual healing process but will need to continue wearing the compression garment for a month or more. We also recommend abstaining from strenuous exercise for a month to six weeks.

Other Things to Consider Before Getting a Liposuction

It is only natural to have some questions or concerns about the procedure. Our all-female team is here to answer them and give you peace of mind about your treatment decisions. Here are a few of the most common patient queries.

Are There Any Risks Involved?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure, and as such, there are some risks involved with any surgical procedure. You can minimize these risks by working with a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon and carefully adhering to Michigan Cosmetic Surgeries aftercare instructions.

Will I Need to Request Extensive Time Off from Work?

While the recovery time can vary from patient to patient, most people feel ready to head back to work within three to 10 days of their procedure.

Scars After the Surgery

The liposuction process requires some small incisions, which means you can anticipate some mild scarring. Scars are generally most pronounced within a couple of weeks of the surgery, and will fade considerably over the course of a year. You can minimize the visibility of your scars by carefully following aftercare instructions, including instructions involving compression garments. Also, Michigan Cosmetic Surgery provides laser scar removal included in the final surgical quote.

How Long Will My Results Last?

In many cases, liposuction results prove to be long-lasting, but only so long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle. With regular exercise and sound nutrition, you can maintain your trim, contoured figure for a long time to come.

How much does Liposuction Cost?

Liposuction: $2,885 per area

Pricing includes Anesthesia and Facility fees.

Does My Insurance Cover the Procedure?

Michigan Cosmetic Surgery does not accept insurance at this time.

Is Getting Liposuction Really Worth It?

Liposuction can help you achieve the look you have always wanted, but found difficult to achieve with only diet and exercise.

Everyone wants to have a toned, shapely figure. Sometimes, all we need is a little extra push. If you have reached the limits of what diet and exercise can accomplish, you may be a good candidate for liposuction. We would love to tell you more about the benefits of liposuction, and about our unique approach.

Is There a Non-Surgical Option for Liposuction?

CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting offers a way to eliminate fat cells without the need for surgical incisions or extended downtime. The treatment works by cooling the fat cells in targeted treatment areas. Once “frozen,” the cells die and are naturally eliminated from the body. Though the results are not immediate, patients can ultimately gain the sleek, contoured physique they have dreamed of.

CoolSculpting is not a painful or uncomfortable experience. In fact, many patients choose to read, nap, or simply scroll through their phones while they have their treatment. Once your CoolSculpting session is over, you can immediately return to your normal activities, without any side effects to worry about.
